About this journey
In 1 Kings 1–11, Solomon takes the throne, asks for wisdom, builds the temple and receives the queen of Sheba. Later, his choices turn his heart away from God. The readings also draw on Samuel and Chronicles; Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs appear as related books, without being treated as the king’s diary.
